The FIDE Congress Report
Herewith an excellent report [link] by our FIDE Zonal President (Zone 1.1), Herman Hamers. Our FIDE Delegate is, of course, Nigel Short. He stood his ground in an excellent manner at the General Assembly. He was a main supporter of the Anatoly Karpov ticket for the post of FIDE President. He also found time to play for England on Board 2. Our President, CJ De Mooi, acted as his advisor at this stage of the Congress. He too worked hard behind the scene on behalf of the Karpov ticket. Nigel was candidate for Vice President of the European Chess Union, but the ticket, headed by the German President, was unsuccessful. As Nigel said, one matter he supported was successful at least – Tromso in Norway won the vote as the site for the 2014 Olympiad

The rumblings and dissatisfaction will go on and on especially over payments over the costs. If it has been a gentlemen deal without the accusations and allegations and having to go to CAS started by Karpov Team will not see the dust being sweep under the carpet.
The offer of a vice presidential post was also rejected by Karpov, now the grumblings over CAS costs and the coming costs over suits on the allegations in a court outside the jurisdiction of CAS especially over allegations made by candidates and published in Karpov blogs. But the offer of being FIDE Chess Ambassador for Life ??
Well some of the candidates got money to throw as it will affect a small hole in their pockets so this drama series will go on for the next few years over suits and counter suits. But Chess goes on Gens Una Sumus
