Breaking News: Kirsan Ilyumzhinov defeats Karpov 95-55
After a very hotly contested election for the Presidency of FIDE for the next four years, the encumbent, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, has defeated team Karpov with the backing of Kasparov by a 95-55 margin. Congratulations to President Ilyumzhinov.
As soon as the results were announced, FIDE President Ilyumzhinov immediately asked his opponent Karpov to unite and offered him the position of Vice President of FIDE.
I hope that my good friends and chess legends Karpov and Kasparov will continue to promote chess. They gave everything they had in this election but it did not work out. I hope that both sides can put away their differences and work toward the common goal of making our sport better and brighter.
Chess needs all the help it can get.
After a bitter battle, Kirsan wants unity remembering the motto Gens una sumus We are A Family, a man of wisdom so this peace offer means We are one big family. Sifu wishes and congrats Kirsan and team.
