Outstanding FIDE Congress
The 81st FIDE Congress opened its sessions on 24 September in the Chess Academy. The most important issues concerning further worldwide development of the wise chess game are being discussed in the Academy.
There were 15 FIDE Commission Meetings held,
Commissions Chairmen have presented their reports to the General Assembly . Further work of the World Chess Federation (FIDE) for the coming 4 years will depend on the decisions of the General Assembly.
Commissions Chairmen have fulfilled a great amount of work and FIDE has maintained its priorities.
1. Popularization of chess, close cooperation with the International Olympic Committee and other international organizations.
2.Preparation of trainers, arbiters and construction of world chess centers all over the world such as Chess Academy in Khanty-Mansiysk that was opened recently.
3.The third issue is CACDEC – helping those national federations that are in need of financial and technical support.
FIDE Commissions have their individual timetables and after they all meet at the Executive Board. The next Executive Board and the General Assembly will be held next year in Krakow, Poland, in the frames of the 82nd FIDE Congress.
The General Assembly worked according to its Agenda including such issues as Bidding for the World Chess Olympiad 2014 and World Chess Championship U-18 in 2011.
Take note that FIDE Congress in Khanty-Mansiysk is unique due to several factors. First of all, it is a record-breaker as for the number of delegates is concerned as well as due to the fact that FIDE President’s and FIDE Continental Presidents elections be held on the same day for the first time in the history. The third particularity of the Congress is that the FIDE General Assembly considered the issue on affiliation of the following national federations to FIDE: With Senegal, Republic of Central Africa and Ivory Coast, which means that the number of national chess federations affiliated to the World Chess Federation will increase to 173.
