Using or making Kasparov as his seconds and campaign manager would make Karpov looks fragile especially seeing the fights made online and seeing with own eyes what the world champions have become from the overflow of Russian politics into the streets brawl in Khanty-Mansiysk.
Chess players are suppose to be a total disciplined, quiet with personality that personified other disciplines are leaders glorified, hero worship but what happen in FIDE Congress and its run up are eye opener in evaluating leaders.
The following pictures and notes from official Olympiad sites shows all. Go the you tube but avoid or you be shocked.

One of the problems is that FIDE delegates don't understand why outsiders are so angry at them for supporting Kirsan Ilyumzhinov. And apparently delegates see nothing wrong in voting for him. I would never shake hands with the man, and will endeavor never to be in the same room as him. Kasparov vents his frustration and apparently this cost Karpov a small number of votes. Kasparov already knew they had lost.
